11/28/2011 0 Comments T.E.E.D's Orlando Higginbottom to perform special Millbank Tower show ahead of album releaseFresh from announcing a 13 date tour in 2012, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs will perform as part of a special 3D audio-visual show in London tonight (28 November). Also known as Orlando Higginbottom, he'll be performing alongside Deadmau5 as part of Nokia Lumia Live, taking place at London’s Millbank Tower. "I'm opening up and there's going to be these visuals that are being made for it that are being projected 30 stories high," he told 6 Music News. Adding: "They're going to do something ultra ridiculous and make the building blow up or something like that. I think the most exciting thing for me is that you can watch it from the other side of the river." Orlando's EP Household Goods came out in 2010, but it was this year that some acclaimed festival sets and a collaboration with Damon Albarn's DRC Music really put him on the map. He is likely to be one of the acts to feature in the New Year's Hotly Tipped acts lists and his debut album is set for release next year. Plans for a 13 date tour of the UK next year were unveiled last week. The jaunt will kick off on 2 February at Cardiff Club Ifor Bach and culminating in a show at Brighton Digital on 18 February. Orlando also presented a 6 Mix for us over the weekend, which you can find on the listen again. I met Orlando to find out more about the event and his forthcoming record:

11/20/2011 0 Comments MJZ and Me...It's taken 25 years for me to actually sing on something recorded that wasn't some am dram production of The Wizard of Oz or Toad of Toad Hall.
About six months ago my friend Michael Zoidis asked me to sing on a tune he'd written for someone special in his life. I re-worked a couple of the verse lyrics, headed over to his place. It was the first time I'd sung in front of someone since singing some of the finest german songs/musical show-stoppers to my singing teacher at school. Egad! It took an hour or so at his flat and he then added several touches of magic to my vocals. I couldn't believe the final product! He makes music under the alias MJZ and you can expect a whole load of blissed out beats and ambient dubstep sounds. The track we did is called You Feed My Sleep and I guess you could say there's something pretty personal about the track for both of us. Not gonna lie, it's a weird feeling putting it out there but it was such an awesome experience, everyone needs to know about his music and the feedback so far has been great. The artwork was expertly done by upcoming fashion label Mrs Wilberforce and it's available as a free download from the 28th November 2011. Have a listen... 11/18/2011 0 Comments Amazing Breakfast weekly round-upThis week's Amazing Breakfast round-up, by my brilliant producer Dani Charlton... It’s only right to start things off as we normally do – with our brilliant beyond brilliant Artist of the Week Lianne La Havas. Fresh from smashing the nation’s TV screens to bits with a sonic assault of gentle perfection on Jools Holland, Georgie caught up with Lianne as she sat in an airport waiting to jetset off to the states. Which she’ll be doing again very soon – this time to support bloomin’ BON IVER. Hey America, you lucky beggars, if you don’t get down to that show, we won’t forgive you OR listen to your whining when you realised what an incredible night you missed. Lianne and Georgie talked all things Bon Iver, Jools, the wonderful EP Lost & Found which is out on Monday and things in the pipeline for 2012 – hear their chat in full: Our Track of the Week this week is by a much more established force in music under a different guise. I don’t wish to insult you by suggesting you’re not already massive fans of the remarkable Grizzly Bear, but it may have slipped through your dense nets for music discovery that one of their number – Mr Chris Taylor – has decided he wants to strike out on his own for a bit under the moniker CANT. Georgie’s a big fan of Grizzly Bear, and as soon as she heard Too Late, Too Far, she became a big fan of CANT too. You CAN have a listen to the track below: As ever we have TV Telly Guru Patrick Smith to talk us through some more exciting TV shenanigans – this week we’re swinging from the sublime to the ridiculous, discussing both the return of brooding Danish crime drama the Killing (and, of course, the sensational knitwear) and more banter about Georgie’s favourite TV car crash – Made In Chelsea. Hear Georgie and Patrick’s chat in full: We’re all about extra tidbits this week. One of Georgie’s favourite new bands of the last year or so, 2:54, finally appeared on amazingtunes.com. To celebrate we gave Scarlet a spin and played out a little snippet of an interview Georgie did with them earlier in the year at the Great Escape, you can listen to Georgie’s chat with Hannah and Collette here: Something else we did on the show this week was talk all about the Dear Me… books – volumes of letters written by celebrites to themselves, aged 16. Georgie’s been addicted to them, and we thought we’d get you classy lot involved as a part of Twitter Tuesday, and to make it all just that little bit better, we also got the wonderful editor, Joseph Galliano on the phone to talk us through some of his favourite letters and about the project in general. Hear Joseph and Georgie’s chat in full: With all those extras for your delectation, you’re already spoiled. Oh, alright then, we’ll pick some of our favourite tracks from the week too. The raucous sounds of the Computers have sounded particularly good early doors this week, as have La Shark, Laki Mera and Georgie’s favourites, the tremendousNew Look. Next week is shaping up to be even more special – one of our absolute favourite guests from across the year arrived on UK soil recently, and we couldn’t resist the opportunity to drag him into our London studio for a chat with Georgie, and to record some EXCLUSIVE tracks for us. You won’t get to hear those until next week though. In the meantime – listen to his beautiful voice and spend the weekend trembling in anticipation. Fact. Done. JOKES. Laughed bent over double watching this on re-wind in the early hours of the morning last weekend. 11/11/2011 0 Comments Amazing Breakfast round-upWhat a week it’s been for us here at Amazing Radio, celebrating all things independent spirited for our Independents’ Week, and Team Amazing Breakfast have loved every second of it, seizing the opportunity to play loads of great artists on really great independent labels, and, of course, waving the flag for our five brilliant documentaries telling the stories of five brilliant labels – Bella Union, Tri-Angle, Fierce Panda, the Leaf Label, and Transgressive. Georgie also spoke to Alison Wenham ahead of the AIM awards, which have been going out across the week, but if you missed any, you can listen to the interview in full here: All that aside, Team Amazing Breakfast carried on with all our usual shenanigans, starting with our wonderful Artist of the Week – the utterly brilliant BASTILLE. We loved playing Flaws, and couldn’t resist the chance to play the new Laura Palmer EP in full, so Georgie spoke to Dan to find out all about their awesome summer of festivals, the EP, David Lynch and new material – hear Georgie’s chat with Dan in full here: We’ve also had an unbelievably good track of the week. Team Amazing Breakfast love it. Georgie loves it, I (Producer DC) love it in a way that is definitely unhealthy, and will be seeking medical assistance just as soon as I can stop listening to it on repeat. There’s just a lot of love in the room. The artist is St Lucia, the song is We Got It Wrong, how something with the word ‘wrong’ in the title can be so, so right is a bit beyond me, but find out for yourself by giving it a listen – wait for the MASSIVE SYNTHS about 1 minute 45 seconds in: Thursdays usually mean Georgie talks telly with Patrick, but he was busy this week. We cried for a bit, but quickly got over it when he said he was putting a spectacular replacement Ed Cumming onto the job. Ed talked us through Life’s Too Short, new series Pan Am, and, as he’s as big of a fan as Georgie is – Made in Chelsea. Hear Ed and Georgie’s chat in full: To wrap it up, we thought we’d shine anIndependents’ Week spotlight on our selection of tracks this week! For Bella Union we’ll go with Georgie’s favourites I Break Horses. ForTri-Angle try woozy electro-experimentalistBalam Acab. If you’re digging around in theFierce Panda record box, then I think we need to talk about (the) Chevin* If you’re thinking of turning over a new Leaf (Label), you’ll not go wrong with Wildbirds & Peacedrums, and forTransgressive, we’d be crazy not to shout about a very recent and very awesome Track of the Week of ours by Dry The River.. *(pun credit to Charlie Ashcroft) As ever we also like to give you a sneak preview of our Artist of the Week for next week – the wonderful Lianne La Havas. Her new EP Lost & Found is out on Labour of Love in a couple of weeks, but here’s a sneaky preview for your listening pleasure! 11/10/2011 0 Comments Lianne La Havas is a comin'!Thrilled to say this lady is going to be on Amazing Breakfast NEXT WEEK! As our Artist of the Week ahead of the release of her new EP Lost and Found on the 21st.
Take a moment to cherish this voice. 11/4/2011 0 Comments Amazing Breakfast round-upCheck out the Brekky round-up lovingly written by producer Dani Charlton..... The end of another week comes with a crashing and dramatic conclusion! Well, actually it hasn’t, but I thought I’d say that for dramatic effect. It has been a fun week though – one which saw the lovely Georgie turning 26 on Wednesday’s show! Feel free to leave Georgie belated birthday greetings in the comments… What HAS happened this week has been a musical education in polar opposites, starting of course, with the delicate rootsy beauty of ourArtist of the Week, Three Metre Day. We’ve been loving hearing Stay That Way on the air so much we couldn’t resist playing a few more choices from their album Coasting Notes. Georgie caught up with singer and pump-organ player Michelle – if you’re as intrigued by the instrument as Georgie was, you can hear all about it: From gorgeous americana to serious party vibes, because it was her birthday week, Georgie couldn’t resist going for a big party tune for her Track of the Week – and what a tune it is. Big house beats, perfect to set you up for a Friday – get your ears around Connected by D/R/U/G/S From gorgeous americana to serious party vibes, because it was her birthday week, Georgie couldn’t resist going for a big party tune for her Track of the Week – and what a tune it is. Big house beats, perfect to set you up for a Friday – get your ears around Connected by D/R/U/G/S As ever we like to leave you with a selection of audio treats that we can’t get enough of through the week to give your ears an extra little present of a Friday morning. It’s like when you’re opening your stocking on Christmas and you discover there’s still a chocolate orange left right down in the toe. This week we’ve been particularly loving the unfeasibly catchy melodies of Family of the Year’s ‘St Croix’,grimy, grungy goodness from Queen Kwong with Eddie the Kid, the blissed out sound of Elephant, reminiscing about Georgie’s Glasto good times with 1914s, and, as ever, got really excited about some of the sensational music we’ll have on the show next week, so here’s a taster from next week’s Artist of the Week - BASTILLE Today at BBC 6 Music News I put together the daily download. Lots of juicy news for you. Pete Townshend presents the first John Peel Lecture, 6 Music Showcase hosts The Charlatans and Bombay Bicycle Club, Tim Burgess speaks of his autobiography, U2 discuss the 20th Anniversary re-release of Achtung Baby and Red Hot Chili Peppers announce two huge UK shows.
