After a decade-long hiatus, Canadian rock duo Death from Above 1979 are back and it seems fans were definitely left wanting more after their 2004 debut - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine. Three UK shows in October have sold out and we've been playing new track Trainwreck 1979 on 6 Music for a while now, the first single from their forthcoming second album The Physical World which is due out next month. I caught up with Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F Keeler for BBC 6 Music News to hear all about their reunion and this new record...here's the full shebang. We used an old studio in the back corridors of BBC 6 Music and as you'll hear got quite excited by an 'on-air' light bulb on the table we were sat around. It's the little things in life...

9/4/2014 0 Comments SHAUN KEAVENY'S GEORGIE SONGAs some of you might know I've worked at BBC 6 Music since 2008, more than six years now! I started out as a total novice at the age of 23, fresh out of uni after a load of internships, some interviewing and online writing at XFM and listening back to the first thing I ever did - blimey I sounded posh! Luckily they didn't show me the door and at some point I got good enough at the on air thing for them to keep asking me back. These days I still get the pleasure of covering on the afternoon show Music News and for Matt Everitt on Shaun Keaveny's brilliantly funny breakfast show. The team are so great I always look forward to it when I know I've got some dates in the diary. In doing this gig, you never know what to expect, whether it be the Led Zeppelin press conference with Shaun asking questions to the band in front of the world's media, doing the music news on Radio 2 with Ken Bruce and Michael Ball (he's met the Queen more than once you know), meeting Terry Wogan and him recording a Christmas message for my family, OR the time I came in and was told I'd be acting in a radio play with Simon Pegg! Crouchenders live from Maida Vale was probably the highlight of my radio life until recently when Shaun took it to a whole nuvva level. He wrote and recorded a song.... fair play I did moan that the intros for me had slowed down ie stopped... but the idea that he would spend a couple of hours of an evening making this blows my mind. Thanks Shaun you bloody legend! x Seeing as you were asking (not that you were asking), here are the lyrics... Apologies for the capitals, but it's taken straight from the original lyric sheet (which will no doubt sell for millions at auction one day). GEORGIE… YOU BRING THE MUSIC NEWS TO LIFE GEORGIE…YOU'RE MY TRUE LED ZEPPELIN WIFE JOURNALISTIC VERACITY I'M SURE THAT ALL RIGHT MINDS AGREE THAT GEORGIE..YOUR HAIR IS PUREST RED GEORGIE..UNLIKE THAT OTHER THOROUGHBRED HIS MANE IS GREY, HE EATS SUGAR LUMPS WITH A HAIR CUT HE GETS THE GRUMPS YES GEORGIE YOU'RE THE ONE, OR AT LEAST ONE OF THE ONES THAT COVERS HIS HORSE'S ASS GEORGIE PLEASE COME BACK, DON'T GIVE US THE SACK, GEORGIE ROGERS! It's Thursday lunch time, I'm trawling through mountains upon mountains of life admin, emails with new music delights, avoiding the feeling of impending doom as I know I must finish sorting all my tax return documents *yawn*... TODAY. I'll do everything else then... like do some blog posts! I'm feeling pretty excited to be seeing Ben Howard at Hackney Empire tonight, one of my favourite London venues, I saw Arcade Fire there when they were showcasing tunes from The Suburbs. It's pretty intimate even though it's a fairly big theatre space. Thinking about tonight I was just remembering a funny little session we did for Brighton Festival Radio back in 2011. I had seen him support Fink in the Roundhouse annex theatre previously when he was just starting out. I loved his music then, I love it more now having soaked up, his debut LP, the Burgh Island EP and his two new tunes NUMEROUS TIMES. I found this shakey and pretty amateur (let's be honest - a bit pants) recording we made of him doing Old Pine in the studio before things really started taking off for him. He had had a big night out in Brighton the night before and was somewhat hungover, I think I was too. Anyway he came in and knocked me sideways with his singing and playing and I'm so glad we did record it because I'll never forget that... |
