It's Thursday lunch time, I'm trawling through mountains upon mountains of life admin, emails with new music delights, avoiding the feeling of impending doom as I know I must finish sorting all my tax return documents *yawn*... TODAY. I'll do everything else then... like do some blog posts! I'm feeling pretty excited to be seeing Ben Howard at Hackney Empire tonight, one of my favourite London venues, I saw Arcade Fire there when they were showcasing tunes from The Suburbs. It's pretty intimate even though it's a fairly big theatre space. Thinking about tonight I was just remembering a funny little session we did for Brighton Festival Radio back in 2011. I had seen him support Fink in the Roundhouse annex theatre previously when he was just starting out. I loved his music then, I love it more now having soaked up, his debut LP, the Burgh Island EP and his two new tunes NUMEROUS TIMES. I found this shakey and pretty amateur (let's be honest - a bit pants) recording we made of him doing Old Pine in the studio before things really started taking off for him. He had had a big night out in Brighton the night before and was somewhat hungover, I think I was too. Anyway he came in and knocked me sideways with his singing and playing and I'm so glad we did record it because I'll never forget that...
