DRUM ROLL PLEASE
It is St Vincent with St Vincent and I got to chat to Annie again (yay) about the album, her fourth studio effort.
Just earlier this month she was nominated in the Best Alternative Music Album category for the record, alongside Alt-J, Arcade Fire, Cage The Elephant and Jack White.
Produced by John Congleton the tracks were arranged and demoed by Annie in Austin, Texas and recorded at Elmwood Studios in Dallas, Texas.
St Vincent received many four and five star reviews following its release in February. In the press she described it as “a party record you could play at a funeral” and off the back performed at several festivals this summer, her own tour dates and she is currently on tour in the US supporting The Black Keys.
She is also one of our three wise women sharing her musical wisdom over Christmas presenting on 6 Music this year.
Here we are nattering about the album, ramping up the performance elements of it and scoring no.2 in our rundown...
We’ve got some news from Animal Collective’s Panda Bear because he has announced details of a new solo album. It will be called Panda Bear meets the Grim Reaper and it’s coming out on Domino Records on January the 12th
Panda Bear has also released a new 4 track EP called Mr Noah – the title track is the first single from the forthcoming album.
Noah Benjamin Lennox released his last solo album Tomboy in 2011 and there has since been an Animal Collective record (2012’s Centipede HZ) as well as a Panda bear Daft Punk collaboration – they recorded Do It Right together for Random Access Memories.
Recording for this album came together everywhere from El Paso, Texas, to a garage by the beach near his home in Lisbon, Portugal.
And I spoke to him about the new single Mr Noah and what we can expect from the new album…
