Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are back with a new single called Let The Day Begin, the first to be released from their forthcoming sixth studio album Specter At The Feast, released through Abstract Dragon Records on the 18th March. It is a cover version and a thoughtful homage to beloved Michael Been of The Call, also BRMC’s guitarist and vocalist Robert Been’s father and honorary ‘fourth member’ who tragically passed away in August of 2012. I CAN'T FRIKKEN WAIT FOR FOALS' NEW ALBUM HOLY FIRE ON 11 FEBRUARY. THE END. FINALLY next month we get Duologue's debut album Song & Dance via my chums at Killing Moon. Their thing is to make building, immersive whoppers of tunes and I can't wait to hear the full LP, which was produced with the help of Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys). I'll stick up my interview with frontman Tim in the next week for you in which he talks all about it. PLUS, the incredibly dishy Robert Sheehan from Misfits is in the video. What more could you want!? Out this week on Warp Records (January 21st) this is the delightful new single from Kwes. Instantly makes me want to dig out my old wheels (Bauer skates! So nineties, I wore them with hockey socks 'coz I was that rude) and hit a park, but alas, it's SNOWING! Health and safety wouldn't allow it in these conditions so I'll enjoy this on repeat from my cosy house. This one has been out for a little while, since October last year, and it's Daughter's first single on 4AD from their much-anticipated debut album. I played the uber-talented Elena Tonra's first demos on the radio over two years ago, saw her play several times and she did a live session for me on my show on Brighton Festival Radio as she turned into the *due-to-be-massive* trio that is now Daughter. Just coz I'm going to see them on Thursday at Hackney Empire I've been listening to this a lot this week so popped it on. One to get lost in during these frozen mornings. This was put online on Monday and by heck - it's only new Disclosure with AlunaGeorge on it. Need I say more. Available to download on 17th February people. Bouncy. And last but not least! The chorus of this new single from the forthcoming Jamie Lidell album is sublime. Durgey, soulful, funky, naaasty and I dig it very much. This could not be more different to the beautiful, almost ballad of a title track from his last album Compass. It's out 19th February.
There, this is what has been helping me through a long old January. Hope you like them too. xx
