Amazing Breakfast round-up

What a week it’s been for us here at Amazing Radio, celebrating all things independent spirited for our Independents’ Week, and Team Amazing Breakfast have loved every second of it, seizing the opportunity to play loads of great artists on really great independent labels, and, of course, waving the flag for our five brilliant documentaries telling the stories of five brilliant labels – Bella Union, Tri-Angle, Fierce Panda, the Leaf Label, and Transgressive.

Georgie also spoke to Alison Wenham ahead of the AIM awards, which have been going out across the week, but if you missed any, you can listen to the interview in full here:

All that aside, Team Amazing Breakfast carried on with all our usual shenanigans, starting with our wonderful Artist of the Week – the utterly brilliant BASTILLE. We loved playing Flaws, and couldn’t resist the chance to play the new Laura Palmer EP in full, so Georgie spoke to Dan to find out all about their awesome summer of festivals, the EP, David Lynch and new material – hear Georgie’s chat with Dan in full here:

We’ve also had an unbelievably good track of the week. Team Amazing Breakfast love it. Georgie loves it, I (Producer DC) love it in a way that is definitely unhealthy, and will be seeking medical assistance just as soon as I can stop listening to it on repeat. There’s just a lot of love in the room. The artist is St Lucia, the song is We Got It Wrong, how something with the word ‘wrong’ in the title can be so, so right is a bit beyond me, but find out for yourself by giving it a listen – wait for the MASSIVE SYNTHS about  1 minute 45 seconds in:

Thursdays usually mean Georgie talks telly with Patrick, but he was busy this week. We cried for a bit, but quickly got over it when he said he was putting a spectacular replacement Ed Cumming onto the job. Ed talked us through Life’s Too Short, new series Pan Am, and, as he’s as big of a fan as Georgie is – Made in Chelsea. Hear Ed and Georgie’s chat in full:

To wrap it up, we thought we’d shine anIndependents’ Week spotlight on our selection of tracks this week! For Bella Union we’ll go with Georgie’s favourites I Break Horses. ForTri-Angle try woozy electro-experimentalistBalam Acab. If you’re digging around in theFierce Panda record box, then I think we need to talk about (the) Chevin* If you’re thinking of turning over a new Leaf (Label), you’ll not go wrong with Wildbirds & Peacedrums, and forTransgressive, we’d be crazy not to shout about a very recent and very awesome Track of the Week of ours by Dry The River..

As ever we also like to give you a sneak preview of our Artist of the Week for next week – the wonderful Lianne La Havas. Her new EP Lost & Found is out on Labour of Love in a couple of weeks, but here’s a sneaky preview for your listening pleasure!
